Wind is a natural resource that in 24 hours can generate 35 times more energy than humans consume daily. Unlike coal or oil, this resource is renewable.

How much energy can be generated from the wind depends on its speed, air density, turbine height and blade diameter.

What causes the wind?

  • As the sun warms the atmosphere, the warm air rises and the cool air flows down. We feel this movement of air masses as wind.
  • The Earth's rotation is another reason that causes air masses to mix and furthers their movement.
  • An uneven ground surface causes air masses to move.
