Electric substation

The turbine, or rather the generator in its nacelle, generates direct current (DC), which is converted into alternating current (AC) for use in the distribution network by powerful high-voltage inverters. (See more about DC and AC here.)

Before reaching households, the generated electricity is passed through cables in the tower and then through underground cables into the distribution or transmission grid until it reaches the substation. There it is converted to low voltage so that it can be used for household purposes.

Power transformers, power switches, buses, insulators and surge arresters are in the substation.
