Turbine

A wind turbine converts kinetic energy into mechanical energy, it converts wind flow into the rotation of a central axis.

As the central axis turns the generator, this mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy.

There are various wind turbines – a few metres high for the needs of one household, and medium-sized, about 4-10 metres high, which can supply a small generation plant with electricity.

Modern commercial wind turbines reach a height of more than 200 metres, making the most of wind resources.

Various combinations of towers and blades have been used over time, but it has been concluded that three bladed turbines are the most efficient.

The future of the turbine

With the development of technology, the height of the turbines and the diameter of the rotor constantly increase – the higher above the ground, the stronger and more stable the wind, the larger the diameter of the rotor (blades), the more energy can be obtained from the incoming wind.

The nacelle height of modern wind turbines is 140-160 m, and the rotor diameter is 170 m.
