Take a train to Ķegums to get acquainted with the history of energy or energy efficiency in Jurmala
October 9, 2019
For the fifth school year, student groups have the opportunity to visit the Energy Museum in Ķegums and Elektrum Energy Efficiency Centre in Jurmala with a 50% discount on train tickets. During the cooperation project from 01.09.2019 until 21.06.2020, Latvenergo Group and Pasažieru vilciens AS are implementing the project Get on the train and get to know the history of energy in Ķegums and energy efficiency in Jurmala!.
Latvenergo AS and Pasažieru vilciens AS provide schools from all over Latvia with a possibility to visit the Energy Museum in Ķegums and the Energy Efficiency Centre in Jurmala. In four years of the collaboration project, 3 200 students have gone on educational energy tours and have also discovered the adventure of travelling by train.
In September of this year, three groups of pupils travelled by train to the Energy Museum in Ķegums: Riga Emīls Dārziņš Music School 9th grade, Valmiera 5th secondary school 7th grade, and Riga 64th secondary school 3rd grade pupils. A total of 67 participants.
As part of the project, Pasažieru vilciens AS provides students of Latvian educational institutions and their accompanying persons a 50% discount on train tickets (one way or two way) for trains from any station to Ķegums (Ķegums station) and Jurmala (Majori station) to take free excursions and educational activities at the Latvenergo Group Energy Museum in Ķegums and the Elektrum Energy Efficiency Centre in Jurmala.
"The collaboration project, now in its fifth year, is proving its sustainability as it is being used by around 700 students every year. In addition, travelling by train is environmentally friendly. The time spent travelling also allows one to get to know the geography of the country, and when arriving in Ķegums or Jurmala, follow the next educational path in historical heritage or energy efficiency”, says Ingrīda Lāce, International Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Director of Latvenergo AS.
”Pasažieru vilciens, as a socially responsible company, is keen on engaging in raising public awareness of the topics related to our company's values, and also demonstrates environmental concerns through its operations. Our electric trains use a considerable amount of electricity to transport passengers, and we are a big company; therefore, it is only natural that we have implemented a smart energy management system. This means that we are constantly searching for how to spend less and how to make processes more efficient to ensure that the electrical energy is consumed meaningfully. I think that during these tours students not only get a comprehensive understanding of electricity generation, but the train travel itself is a part of the tour and is very much in line with the knowledge they gain at the Energy Museum in Ķegums and Energy Efficiency Centre in Jurmala”, says Rodžers Jānis Grigulis, Chairman of the Management Board of Pasažieru vilciens AS.
Register for a tour - the person in charge of the group (10 to 30 people) shall apply 5 working days in advance for a tour to the Energy Museum in Ķegums (e-mail: muzejs@latvenergo.lv, phone No.: 65010355), Elektrum Energy Efficiency Centre in Jurmala (fill in the application form:
