Riga Technical University

Latvenergo Group has established the closest cooperation with Riga Technical University (RTU) that is the oldest university in Latvia. Close and versatile links have got established both in the field of scientific research and professional development by providing support to academic research projects, providing scholarships and more than 300 internships for students every year. The practical application of the knowledge obtained during studies at daily work in Latvenergo Group is attested by the fact that more than one thousand or one in four employees are graduates of this educational establishment. The history records show that totally more than 5000 of former and current employees of Latvenergo Group consider RTU as their almamater .

There is intense cooperation with the RTU for improvement of the study process – Latvenergo Group employees participate there as guest lecturers, competitions for students are organised and scholarships are granted to the best students and authors of the best final study papers.


 

University of Latvia

Latvenergo AS has signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Latvia (LU) providing for cooperation on theoretical and practical training of specialists; research work, improvement of innovative study and working environment, transfer of know-how and technologies; provision of internships for LU students.

Work on research projects that will be used for analysis of future opportunities for electricity generation in Latvia is carried out at present. Latvenergo AS sees several potential opportunities for cooperation with faculties of the LU in future.

For instance, development of specialised software for supplementing the possibilities offered by databases and merging of the current control systems, as well as research of data transmission possibilities by using, for example, low voltage power lines, are carried out in cooperation with the Computer Science Faculty. Cooperation is also possible with the Faculty of Chemistry in the field of expertise of quality of materials for insulation materials, transformer oils, wood impregnation technologies. The Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences can provide additional information regarding the use of bowels of earth in relation with the energy (geothermal energy, underground heat accumulation, suitability of the bowels of earth of Latvia for long-term storing of CO2). The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics can provide simulation information regarding various processes.

Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies

Latvenergo AS has signed agreement on mutual cooperation for promotion of the education process and research with the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies.

This agreement provides for strengthening of the cooperation between Latvenergo AS and the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies by contributing to the improvement of the theoretical and practical knowledge of future engineering experts, improvement of innovative study programs and study environment, as well as cooperation in research and provision of internship opportunities.

The Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies is an important partner for Latvenergo AS taking into account the fact that this educational establishment holds an important role in the maintenance of the power supply of Latvia because it educates experts for operation of hydro constructions needed for energy industry. Presence of these experts is indispensable for securing high quality functioning of the Daugava hydro power plants and also power supply of Latvia.
