Plavinas HPP History Exhibition receives the Aizkraukle Municipality 2019 Event of the Year award

Today, on 10 January, at the Aizkraukle Municipality event "Event of the Year 2019", the modernised Plavinas HPP History Exhibition, which was opened in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Latvenergo Group, receives an award in the nomination "Tourism". More than 2200 visitors from Latvia and other countries have visited it since May, and 85% of the visitors have evaluated the exhibition positively.

“The name of Aizkraukle is inextricably linked to the pride of the Latvian economy - Plavinas Hydropower Plant. We are delighted that our exhibition is helping to promote not only energy sector, but also the city and the municipality. Opening the modernised Plavinas HPP History Exhibition during Museum Night 2019, we were inspired by its nature - a small, yet saturated and visual story. It has also been appreciated by more than 2200 visitors from Latvia and neighbouring countries - Lithuania and Estonia, Poland, Finland, Germany, Italy and Canada,” - says Ingrīda Lāce, International Relations and CSR Director of Latvenergo AS.

The modernised Plavinas HPP History Exhibition is an interactive story full of historical evidence about Latvia's largest power generating facility - Plavinas HPP, raising public awareness of the development of the Latvian energy industry and the Latvenergo Group, as well as promoting young people's interest in exact subjects and engineering professions.

Digital technologies provide an opportunity to get to know Plavinas HPP from the beginning of its construction in 1961 until it evolved into the largest power generating facility in Latvia, gaining insight into the operations of the hydropower plant and the generation of electricity. The interactive tour gives visitors information, not only about Plavinas HPP, but also about Latvenergo Group. The large projection of falling water gives the Exhibition a special dynamic. The youngest visitors of the Exhibition are especially fascinated by the animated hologram, which allows one to imagine the creation of Plavinas HPP.

Since September 2019, visitors can express their views on the quality of the Exhibition during their visit. 85% of visitors have given a like to the Exhibition. The visitors also appreciated the interactive solutions of the exhibition and the unique diving suit that was used until 1995 to carry out the supervision and repair works of the hydrotechnical structures of the Daugava hydropower plants.

Plavinas HPP is a unique hydrotechnical structure, the construction of which was once implemented using innovative engineering solutions that still inspire specialists. The hydropower plant is built on soft and remarkably heterogeneous soils of the bed of the River Daugava, with a 40 m elevation of the level of water in the reservoir. The plant has an extraordinary architectural solution - a hydropower plant building with a machine hall is combined with a spillway, under which the only road transport tunnel in Latvia that connects the two banks of the Daugava is located.

The content of the exposition was created by Latvenergo Group Energy Museum, whereas the design and arrangement of the exposition was provided by Dd studio SIA.

We invite you to visit the Plavinas HPP generation facility and history exhibition on working days by registering in advance at www.latvenergo.lv, and on Saturdays - just the History Exhibition, which can be visited without prior registration.
