35 charging stations have been built in the TEN-T network - a step in the development of electromobility in Latvia
November 25, 2025

Latvenergo AS with the electric vehicle charging brand Elektrum Drive has completed a significant stage in the development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T)*. With the support of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), 35 publicly accessible electric car charging stations with 138 ports have been built throughout Latvia. Thus, Elektrum Drive is by far the most extensive and powerful charging network in the country. More than 80 stations are planned for future funding phases.
Since the start of the project on 11 November 2022 until 10 November this year, 35 electric car charging stations have been built, with co-financing of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) in the amount of EUR 5 250 000, creating a modern and fast charging network throughout the Baltics. In Latvia, 23 cities are included in the network, the largest of which are Liepaja, Ventspils, Rezekne, Bauska. Each new TEN-T network station has four ports with a minimum capacity of 150 kW, while the ultra-powerful station in Ventspils has 360 kW ports, which are also intended for charging heavy duty vehicle.
"Each new charging station is an investment in safety - both for the user, because he will always get everywhere, and for the country - these stations use 100% locally produced green energy, which means independence from fossil resources. This is an investment in energy security and the economy, because the income remains in our country, and not goes abroad. In November, on our holiday, we congratulate everyone who makes a choice for a cleaner and safer Latvia!" – Ansis Valdovskis, Director of Baltic Electric Vehicle Charging at Latvenergo AS.
"Over the last 10 years, the European Union has injected €1,2 billion to support the deployment of more than 51,000 publicly accessible recharging points in all Member States for cars and trucks. This is a key enabler for reducing transport related emissions and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050. Today, a key step has been made towards a seamless electric mobility on the European road network, with the commissioning in Latvia of 138 recharging points providing a power output of 150kW and 350kW, supplied with renewable electricity produced locally. This is an important contribution for a more sustainable and resilient transport network in Europe,” said Richard Ferrer, Head of the Alternative Fuels sector, at the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).
In total, Elektrum Drive has expanded its network with more than 100 new ports in the Baltics in recent months, and currently more than 1000 ports are available. The goal is to reach 1200 charging ports by the end of the year.
Elektrum Drive charging stations use 100% green energy, the origin of which is certified by a green energy certificate, thus the project makes a significant contribution to achieving the objectives of the European Green Deal and helps to prevent CO₂ emissions from being released into the environment.
